Sacred Island Botanicals: How Fresh Turmeric Lulur, Coffee Scrubs, and Boreh Restore Tropical Skin
Centuries before modern skincare scrubs, royal Javanese and Balinese courts relied on golden turmeric, hand-crushed rice flour, and warming spices. Here is how they revitalize your sun-kissed skin.

At Jaens Spa Ubud, we believe the most potent remedies for tired skin are not synthesized in sterile laboratories—they are harvested from Bali’s volcanic fertile soils and spice groves.

Each botanical body scrub and wrap prepared in our spa kitchens uses freshly crushed whole spices, volcanic sands, cold-pressed coconut oils, and locally grown Balinese coffee beans.

The Royal Heritage of Lulur & Boreh

Two botanical formulations stand as pillars of Indonesian wellness tradition:

  • Royal Golden Lulur: A blend of sweet turmeric root, ground rice powder, and sandalwood oil originally formulated for royal brides in the 17th-century palaces. It acts as an organic antimicrobial peel that leaves skin soft, bright, and naturally radiant.
  • Traditional Balinese Boreh: A spicy, deeply warming medicinal paste composed of ginger, cloves, nutmeg, galangal, and crushed cinnamon bark. Historically applied by rice farmers after working in wet paddy fields, Boreh warms joints, draws out chills, and stimulates circulation.
  • Kintamani Coffee Body Scrub: Coarsely ground Arabica beans from the highlands of Mount Batur provide natural caffeine that tones surface skin and polishes away sun dullness.

Every scrub treatment concludes with a soothing fresh yogurt rinse and warm floral shower, preparing your skin to absorb nutrient-rich botanical lotions.
